19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player won his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
